This is an ancient tantric practice. The best way of transmitting it is by recalling the story of Galatea and Pygmalion. Pygmalion was a virginal man (a monk and a priest of Aphrodite’s cult). He sculpted the statue that reflected his ideal, Galatea, and Aphrodite, moved by his love, gave life to it.
Everyone has felt the aspiration towards something higher, some more enlightened levels of being, everyone has lived the sensations of a first love, the dream of being a hero... Often, ordinary people project their ideal on people who are very far from being able to handle it, so that disillusion sets in. Some people, inspired by the sensation of the ideal, begin to realize it in their work and creation, by giving shape to the image of their ideal in poems, paintings or music. Others find their ideal in religion and identify it with God or with the Messiah.
The ideal is a parallel being that lives in the subtle world.
Every person has his double (not to be confused with the etheric double that is our etheric body), which exists on the astral plane. This being of the opposite pole from us is our guardian angel. In many cultures there are myths and legends about these beings, who are named in many different ways. We call them: Onome.
The Onome has only a high body, so that, in order to embody him/her, it is necessary to sculpt an etheric body, created with elements of subtle energy. This, obviously, is work for advanced students, although the possibility of feeling the Onome is, to a certain extent, within everybody’s reach.
Another not less complex path for embodiment of the Omone is that of creating the ideal of one’s life partner. To do it, it is important that two people have the same ideas and beliefs. In this way, having made contact with one’s own ideal, each one will be able to get in touch with the partner’s ideal and, so, through the state of non-doing (cfr. the book ‘Kundalini Tantra’), personify this in one’s own self. The other partner must to do the same, so that each has a personified ideal of the other. Although undergoes constant changes also in external appearance, the ideal creates state of union and merging with one another that had been previously unattainable.
There are some ancient legends that say how, in the beginning, human beings were bisexual and equal to the Gods in their magnitude. As, however, they did not posses higher knowledge and their power was dangerous, the Gods divided them into two halves: man and woman, human being and Onome. From that point onwards, instead of aspiring to be equal to Gods, the two halves aspired to find each other. This is why people look for this all their life and why they are unhappy. If, however, they could manage to unite again, they would recover their equality with God. This union can be felt between two people who have embodied their ideal in each other and, when it is not possible to find someone with the same ideas, this union with the Onome can, at least, be materialized on the etheric level.
What kind of union are we talking about?
First of all, about the union of subtle bodies at the energetic level, the union of all the chakras, or, in other words, of the physical, the sexual, the emotional, the mental and the will. In spite of the feeling of being separate beings, the merging in essence, generates one single body (even if divided in two parts), a unique energy system, a single emotion, thought and will. Only at level of the primary monad of each individual there is not a complete union (each one remains in his individuality, preserving Spiritual self-consciousness).
This merging is well represented in the Tibetan Kalachakra icons or by the Sufi poet, Ibn Al Farid (who express it very clearly in his poems) as well as in the structure of the Shri Yantra, where the red colour represents the masculine and the blue the feminine. In it, the triangles pointing upwards represent the masculine and those pointing downward the feminine essence. In it, there is an additional feminine triangle showing the predominance of the feminine principle. In this way, an asymmetry without which movement would be unthinkable in this world (finished harmony means entire stillness) is produced. The circle that surrounds the triangles represents the resulting unit from which contrast arises whereas a square with two svastics represents the different directions of energy, the four elements within both men and women. This process is reflected in the mantra ‘OM MANI PADME HUM’, where
Sexual energy, materialized in the semen, is the highest energy flowing in the human organism. After a man unites with a woman, they bring to the world a new being, a new life, but also, by using the same energy, they can create the wonderful embryo of their immortality. The miraculous embryo of the immortality of Daoism or the stone of the alchemists are nothing else but our subtle bodies, now still in their infantile, immature state and unable to give the Soul the possibility of manifesting his Divinity with all its power.
The subtle bodies deliver all parapsychological abilities, allowing for the realisation of fundamental knowledge as well as the potency and the beatitude of our highest "I", the Soul.
In their life, people usually waste energy, especially sexual energy. Even when this is not dissipated through the sexual act, it is discharged in sleep or in absurd things, in anger, jealousy and other negative emotions. Often, this energy relieves itself through spontaneous ejaculation during one’s sleep (night pollution). All these way of discharging this valuable energy indicate a weakness of the nervous system or an energetic imbalance in the organism, due, for instance, to a greater caloric intake that what is required by someone’ s daily activity or an overload of information or impressions that cannot be processed.
This is why, asceticism is the first step and an absolute must in preparation for tantra. Also fundamental is the performance of asanas and of pranayama s well as of other depurative yogic practices (see the book “Tantric Raja Yoga”).
The human being is structured in such a way that all energy accumulates in Svadhistana chakra, in the lower abdomen, the Chinese ‘the sea of energy’. With meditation and yoga exercises, the energy in this centre rises to its highest level and when this reaches a certain critical mass of energy (this can occur in austere conditions) latent kundalini manifests itself. This is like a nuclear bomb that exploits all what is accumulated in the subconscious. This energy first moves down towards Mulahdara and then it begins to rise along the central channel, mahalinga, as it finds obstructions along the channel ida (sentimental dreams) and pudgala (forms of passionate activity, orgasm, anger etc.). In the beginning, this energy is perceived as heat waves that spread across the whole body.
When it connects with the top part of the mahalinga: sushumna, this begins to manifest as energy Tamas. In
Kundalini Shakti energy can also move from above and, in this case, all processes happen in reverse, beginning for brahmananda. This second way is slower and calmer. It is for those who do not have a big willpower and lack the ability of controlling deep energies; it is for people with a philosophical character. The path of Kundalini energy from above is named purna or djnana yoga (described in detail by Aurobindo, cfr. “Bases of yoga”), from below kundalini or hatha yoga and, from the heart, bhakti yoga. The latter is for emotional people as it provides them with the deep experience of love for and loyalty to the Onome or for the Absolute. Generally the love towards the Onome is the first stage of bhakti yoga: it is difficult to love an unknown and distant Absolute whereas, on the other hand, feelings for the Onome are more familiar as everyone has experienced them. Only then follows the next level: love towards God as one with the Onome. In any path of ascetic energy saving this is a first and indispensable step. As for Tantra, it is clear, that this gathers all the above three pathways. It is a sensitive pathway.
When certain obstacle are overcome, the path of kundalini becomes possible. For instance, a crooked spine can be straightened by asanas, blocked channels can be freed with pranayama and closed chakras opened with meditation (see “Tantra Radja yoga”). In a person whose being is not completely open Kundalini, as the sun that makes the flowers bloom, enters progressively into every chakra forming the corresponding subtle body. Often, some people, stop at one of the stages, by either surrendering to the delight of the world just discovered or by being captivated by the force and power that Shakti grants them. This is precisely why some people sustain that Kundalini energy is dangerous. It is important to underline that, however, they do not know what this is nor what the multiple ways of accessing it are.
What is dangerous is not Kundalini, but people’s ignorance as those who are faithful to the Highest Power and let this lead them, will not move away from the way.
